Critical Raw Materials Required for the Energy Transition
[Réservé aux membres du CFE]
Critical raw materials such as lithium, cobalt and others are key for the production of solar photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, electric batteries, and more, and so availability, accessibility and sustainable sourcing of such materials is vital for driving faster and further energy transitions in Europe and elsewhere. Demand for such materials is therefore expected to grow exponentially but a significant challenge arises from the fact that these materials predominantly come from a limited number of suppliers and regions, creating risks and vulnerabilities to supply chains.
To address concerns around critical raw materials required for energy transitions, governments are taking measures. The European Union, for example, has recently introduced the Critical Raw Materials Act, which aims to diversify the supply chain of critical raw materials and enhance self-sufficiency in the exploration and production of clean technologies. By reducing reliance on a limited number of suppliers, these measures aim to foster a more secure and sustainable clean energy ecosystem.
This World Energy Café Europe webinar facilitates a discussion on the importance of critical raw materials and their relation to the future of the energy sector and will address such questions as:
- How do critical raw materials -and their availability and accessibility- impact Europe’s energy transition ambitions and (energy) industrial supply chains?
- Which critical raw materials are essential to successfully implement a carbon-neutral strategy?
- What are the potential risks and vulnerabilities associated with relying on a limited number of suppliers?
- How can diversification of sourcing enhance supply chain resilience and foster innovation?
- What measures can governments, industries, and stakeholders in Europe implement to promote a more diverse, resilient and sustainable supply chain and will the EU’s initiatives be sufficient to address concerns?
This session presents an unparalleled opportunity to engage in a constructive dialogue that explores the complex dynamics of critical raw material supply chains. Do not miss your chance to be at the forefront of this crucial discussion.
