WEC Café | AI, Data Centres and the Future of Energy Demand
The next World Energy Café is taking place Thursday 21 May at 12:00 PM UK, co-hosted by Finland, Türkiye and United Arab Emirates Member Committees.
Under the theme “AI, Data Centres and the Future of Energy Demand”, this session will explore one of the most rapidly evolving dynamics shaping today’s energy systems.
As artificial intelligence continues to scale, it is driving new and increasingly concentrated patterns of electricity demand through the expansion of data centres and digital infrastructure. This shift is already reshaping how energy systems are planned, operated and financed.
Bringing together global experts, the session will offer practical insights into how AI-driven demand is evolving from global electricity trends to the realities faced by data centre operators and energy system providers. It will also examine how infrastructure, grids and supply are adapting to this growth, and what challenges are emerging in keeping pace with both the scale and speed of change.
