The report builds on the report of 2025, which presented the challenges faced by energy-intensive industries in Northwest Europe due to high energy costs and explored the potential consequences of staying in the region or relocating to lower-cost areas.
This year’s report shows that, in today’s context, sustainable interventions in the energy system and wider energy transition can deliver multiple objectives simultaneously — including competitiveness and strategic autonomy. It emphasises that continuing the energy transition is not only feasible, but also essential. By presenting these insights, the report aims to inform the strategic discussion on the future of industry in Northwest Europe. |
