SUMMARY:AI in the Energy Sector – Driving Innovation and Overcoming Challenges
DESCRIPTION:The energy sector is undergoing a significant transformation. The electrification of society\, the climate crisis\, the rapid growth of renewable energy\, and decentralized production solutions are generating new demands across the entire sector. At the same time\, technological advancements are providing solutions\, with artificial intelligence (AI) playing an increasingly important role. \nAI can optimize energy systems in various ways. It can predict electricity demand and production\, manage grid loads\, optimize electricity trading\, and support the operation of smart grids. Additionally\, AI enables predictive maintenance\, helping to identify maintenance needs before problems arise. These advancements improve energy efficiency\, increase system flexibility\, and aid the transition to cleaner energy production. \nHowever\, the adoption of AI in the energy sector also presents challenges. Complex algorithms can sometimes operate as “black boxes\,” making it difficult to explain or assess decision-making processes\, which raises concerns about transparency and trust. Data security and privacy are also critical issues\, particularly with respect to critical infrastructure. Furthermore\, the responsible use of AI necessitates clear regulations\, rules\, and shared principles. \nIn this webinar\, we will explore the opportunities and limitations of AI in the energy sector. We will share practical case examples of how AI is already being utilized in the Finnish energy sector\, where its applications provide tangible benefits. We will also discuss the challenges faced in the large-scale adoption of AI and how it is driving innovation and solving industry-specific problems.
